The US-Algeria trade relationship is dynamic and each year the trade volume between the two countries increases. Several of Algeria’s most productive industrial sectors have benefited from US participation and investment. Currently Algeria is conducting significant financial reforms to increase transparency and efficiency in the banking and investment sector.

Recently the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria ratified a law concerning US-Algeria trade. According to the Ordinance n°9-01 - 29 Rajab 1430, all future transactions for the payment of goods must be conducted by letter of credit. Additionally all imported goods must be new.

2009 Algeria Economic Forum Washington, DC

The 2009 Algeria Economic Forum, held on April 27, 2009 at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC, was an opportunity for US companies to learn more about opportunities for US business activity and US investment in Algeria, and to learn about the Algerian Commercial Code. The 2009 Algeria Economic Forum featured presentations from: - the Honorable Minister Karim Djoudi, the Algerian Minister of Finance - the Honorable Abdallah Baali, Algerian Ambassador to the United States - the US Department of State Algerian Investment Promotion Delegation The panel of Algerian economic experts explained recent financial reforms, taxation, financing opportunities and new incentives for US companies operating in Algeria.  The 2009 Algeria Economic Forum was organized by the US-Algeria Business Council and the Embassy of Algeria in Washington, DC with the generous sponsorship of the Coca-Cola Company and the Northrop Grumman Corporation.
